Dr. Murray explains why and offers insights into the increased risks
The Chattanooga Times Free Press interviewed Dr. Rink Murray about the trend of older mothers having babies. He says Tennessee Reproductive Medicine is seeing more and more women in their late 30s and early 40s wanting to have children. This trend has been reported by the National Center for Health Statistics, noting that birthrates for American women ages 40 to 44 are at their highest point since 1967.
“A lot of these women are waiting until they’re older to have children because they’re delaying marriage, with the average marriage now starting when couples are in their 30s,” Murray says. “Women are also developing their careers and postponing having children.”
