Dr. Jessica Scotchie discusses IVF and PGT (preimplantation genetic testing) with Chattanooga Times Free Press

Dr. Scotchie clarifies what PGT can detect

Dr. Jessica Scotchie who spoke to the news about a bill that could have endangered IVF | Tennessee Reproductive Medicine | Chattanooga

TRM’s Dr. Jessica Scotchie was highlighted in the Chattanooga Times Free Press Ask a Doctor feature article. The publication asked Dr. Scotchie if fertility patients can pick their baby’s eye and hair color with in vitro fertilization (IVF)?

Dr. Scotchie clarified that PGT (preimplantation genetic testing) is a technique used to test the embryos created through IVF, that is used to identify which embryos are more likely to make a healthy child.

“Preimplantation genetic testing cannot identify physical features in an embryo like hair color, eye color, height, etc, and it is impossible to create an embryo with desired features. There is no such thing as creating a specifically designed baby.”
